edie-murphy-and-tracy-edmonds.jpgborabora_lemeridien_waterbungalow_01.jpgGood God, how I would hate to be famous! – The newspapers have reported Comedian Eddie Murphy and partner Tracey Edmonds have ‘split’, two weeks after tying the knot in a symbolic ceremony in French Polynesia. They had a symbolic wedding guys! – That should explain that the two people in question are probably intelligent enough and perfectly aware that it was not going to be legally recognised and decided to have a symbolic commitment of their relationship in this idyllic location. Wouldn’t it be such a pain in the ass to have every aspect of your relationships and life dissected by the media and have to send out statements explaining your relationship?By the way this is what Murphy and Edmonds said!:“After much consideration and discussion, we have jointly decided that we will forego having a legal ceremony as it is not necessary to define our relationship further,” Murphy and Edmonds said in the statement.“While the recent symbolic union in Bora Bora was representative of our deep love, friendship and respect that we have for one another on a spiritual level, we have decided to remain friends.” If I had the money I would probably have symbolic weddings with ALL my friends (including my husband!) just for the excuse to have a party in such a gorgeous place – Blue lagoons, languid ocean breezes, swaying palms, soft white beaches, dazzling flowers, pinnacled mountain slopes, breathtaking sunsets. If you are looking for a gorgeous place to go on honeymoon Bora Bora is it.I often get calls from  couples who have heard of  Bora Bora’s magic but the first thing they ask  is where it actually is……well, Bora Bora is 150 miles north-west of Tahiti and lies anchored amid the very bluest of lagoons, with a necklace of tiny atolls, each fringed by a protective reef of coral. Timeless Huahine-Nui and Huahune-Iti, twin islands of legends, are a close neighbour of Bora Bora – while Manihi, Tikehau and Rangiroa, to the north east in the Tuamotu Atoll, are a bit  more remote and romantic desert island hideaways. The Robinson Crusoe lagoons are home to many pearl farms – and the idyllic setting for some of the South Pacific’s finest snorkelling and scuba-diving.The Wedding Planner (www.weddingplanner.ie) offers  Bora Bora as an idyllic honeymoon destination for those who seek that perfect paradise location and wecould arrange an Eddie Murphy style symbolic wedding ceremony too for any one who wants it (just don’t expect it to be legally recognised in your own country)!

08/08/08 – A special date

8.jpgThe hugely popular wedding date 07/07/07 has come and gone, this year the ‘in’ date is  08/08/08. While the date shares much of the appeal of 7/7/07 there are other attractions to it.

The date is not only catchy but the number 8 is also considered very favourable in Chinese culture. The Chinese pronunciation for ‘eight’ (ba in Mandarin and paat in Cantonese) sounds similar to the word for ‘prosperity’ (fa in Mandarin and faat in Cantonese). The more eights involved in a couple’s lives, the better chance they have for luck and wealth (so get booking!). Numbers play a large role in choosing a wedding date for the Chinese (many Chinese couples are given a selection of auspicious days on which to marry). This applies to any special event in Chinese culture. In fact, the summer Olympics in Beijing will begin on 8/8/08, at 8:08 p.m.Along with the good luck associated with the number eight, 8/8/08 has a few other factors that might make it a desirable day to get married. August is always a popular month for weddings and when the numeral “8″ is turned on its side, it becomes the symbol for infinity — a fitting motif to represent the beginning of a marriage!

The only thing going against the date is that it falls on a Friday which is less popular day than Saturday for weddings. If you’re into the idea of using significant numbers for your wedding date but don’t want to get married on a Friday, consider a Saturday in next June when the numbers line up in sequence, on 6/7/08.

If you aren’t getting married this year, don’t worry there is always 09/09/09, 10/10/10, 11/11/11 and 12/12/12!
